History of the Rose Island Lighthouse

Step back in time at the Rose Island Lighthouse, beautifully restored to its 1930s appearance. Perched on the remnants of an 18th-century bastion, this historic beacon once guided ships through the bustling waters of Narragansett Bay. Inside, visitors can experience firsthand what life was like for a lighthouse keeper, with authentic furnishings and details from the early 20th century. Thanks to the memories of Wanton Chase and the dedication of local preservationists, the lighthouse now stands as a vivid tribute to Newport’s maritime past.
