Apartment Layout Back to Links ![]() OCCUPANCY & FURNISHINGS ![]() The apartment accommodates up to 4 adults in two beds. The Keeper's bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a full-size (standard double) futon sofa bed in the living room. The bunk room (Above in the upper left corner of the layout, and pictured on right) has two twin (single) beds on top of each other. Although the keeper usually has first dibs on it for their children, it does not necessarily go with the apartment, since it may also be occupied by children of the families staying overnight downstairs in the museum. Note: the bunk room is only for children, not adults. Please let us know in advance if you need to reserve the bunk room for your children.
UTILITIES & APPLIANCES Chlorinated rainwater for cooking, bathing and housecleaning comes from the basement cistern. Bottled water is provided for drinking. Propane fuels the gas cooking stove, hot water heater, and BBQ grill. Winter heat is provided by an oil-fired, in-floor heating system and a Vermont Castings Resolute wood stove. A 9-cu.ft. refrigerator runs on pollution-free, wind-generated electricity. A cellular phone and VHF marine radio are provided for emergencies. Other electric appliances in the keeper's apartment include a thermal coffee maker, toaster, microwave oven, crock pot, vacuum cleaner, clothes iron and a hairdryer, which are used only when the wind provides enough energy – we say, “If the wind blows, vacuum; if not, sweep.”
